Learn essential care tips for your PlantPico Fish Haven, including feeding, water maintenance, and plant care.

Updated over 4 months ago

Welcome to the wonderful world of Fish Haven! 🎉 Your new aquatic friends are excited to make a splash in their new home. Let's dive into how to keep your Fish Haven thriving and your finned pals happy!

Setting Up Your Fish Haven 🏗️

  1. Location, Location, Location: Place your Fish Haven in a spot with stable temperature, away from direct sunlight and drafts.

  2. Water Prep: Fill your Fish Haven with dechlorinated water. Let it sit for 24 hours before adding fish to allow the water to reach room temperature.

Feeding Time 🍽️

  1. Portion Control: Feed your fish small amounts 2-3 times daily. They should consume all food within 2-3 minutes.

  2. Variety is the Spice of Life: Offer a mix of flakes, pellets, and occasional treats like freeze-dried bloodworms.

Keeping the Water Crystal Clear 💧

  1. Regular Water Changes: Replace 20-25% of the water weekly. You have two options for this: a) Using PlantPico Water Changer (Recommended):

    • Use your PlantPico water changer to easily remove old water and debris from the bottom.

    • It's designed specifically for your Fish Haven, making water changes a breeze!

    • Gently refill the Fish Haven using the water changer, minimizing disturbance to your aquatic friends.

Don't have a PlantPico water changer yet? You can purchase one here. It's an essential tool for easy and effective Fish Haven maintenance. b) Alternative Method (If not using PlantPico Water Changer):

    • Carefully remove your fish and place them in a separate container with some of their tank water.

    • Empty the Fish Haven completely.

    • Clean the inside of the Fish Haven gently with a soft sponge (no soap!).

    • Refill with fresh, dechlorinated water at the same temperature as the old water.

    • Carefully reintroduce your fish to their refreshed home.

Watch our step-by-step video demonstration of the emptying process below for a visual guide.

  2. Gentle Cleaning: Whichever method you choose, be sure to gently clean the inside walls of the Fish Haven to remove any algae buildup.

  3. No Soap: Never use soap or chemicals to clean your Fish Haven. They can be harmful to your fish.

Fish Capacity and Comfort 🐠

Important Note: To ensure the comfort and well-being of your aquatic friends, please follow these guidelines:

  • For your small Fish Haven terrarium, we recommend either:

    • One quite big fish, or

    • Two small fish

  • Please don't overcrowd your Fish Haven. More fish might seem fun, but it can stress your aquatic pets and upset the delicate balance of your ecosystem.

Remember, a spacious environment leads to happier, healthier fish!

Maintaining Perfect Balance 🌡️

  1. Temperature: Keep the water between 75-80°F (24-27°C) for most tropical fish.

  2. pH Levels: Aim for a pH between 6.8-7.8. Test weekly and adjust as needed.

  3. Balance: Remember, your Fish Haven is a delicate ecosystem. The health of your fish and plants are interconnected, so care for both equally!

Health Check 🩺

  1. Daily Observation: Watch for changes in behavior, appetite, or appearance.

  2. Quarantine: If adding new fish, quarantine them for 2 weeks before introducing them to your Fish Haven.

Plant Care 🌱

Don't forget that the plants in your Fish Haven need care too! Here's how to keep them thriving:

  1. Watering: Water the tree in your Fish Haven twice a week. This helps maintain humidity and keeps your plants healthy.

  2. Lighting: Provide at least 6 hours of light daily. You can use:

    • The PlantPico lamp (recommended for consistent care)

    • Indirect sunlight (be cautious of temperature fluctuations)

  3. Pruning: Regularly trim any overgrown plants to maintain the balance in your Fish Haven.

Vacation Care 🏖️

  1. Automatic Feeders: For short trips, consider an automatic feeder.

  2. Fish Sitters: For longer absences, enlist a fish-savvy friend or family member to perform water changes and feeding.

Remember, a happy Fish Haven means happy fish and plants! With these care tips for both your aquatic friends and their green companions, your miniature ecosystem will thrive.

Happy fish and plant keeping! 🐠🌿💙
