Caring for Your Aquatic Terrarium (General Guide)
Welcome to the wonderful world of PlantPico aquatic terrariums! π πΏ Whether you own Eden's Pond, Water World, MiniHaven, or Water Falling, this guide will help you maintain a thriving aquatic ecosystem.
Setting Up Your Aquatic Terrarium ποΈ
Location: Place in a spot with stable temperature, away from direct sunlight and drafts.
Water Prep: If setting up fresh, fill with dechlorinated water and let sit for 24 hours before adding fish.
Fish Capacity and Comfort π
Important Note: To ensure the comfort and well-being of your aquatic friends:
For small aquatic terrariums, we recommend either:
One medium-sized fish, or
Two small fish
Don't overcrowd! More fish = more stress and imbalanced ecosystem.
Feeding Time π½οΈ
Portion Control: Feed small amounts 2-3 times daily. Fish should consume all food within 2-3 minutes.
Variety: Offer a mix of flakes, pellets, and occasional treats like freeze-dried bloodworms.
Plant Care (Land Section) π±
Watering: Water the land plants (including any trees) once per week.
Trees like Syzygium buxifolium need watering 1x per week
Water the moss and terrestrial plants gently
Lighting: Provide at least 6 hours of light daily:
Use the PlantPico lamp (recommended)
Or place in bright, indirect sunlight
Keeping the Water Crystal Clear π§
Regular Water Changes: Replace 20-25% of the water weekly. You have two options:
a) Using PlantPico Water Changer (Recommended):
Easily remove old water and debris
Designed specifically for your aquatic terrarium
Gently refill, minimizing disturbance to fish
Don't have one? Purchase here.
b) Manual Method (For complete water changes):
Remove fish to a separate container with their tank water
Gently clean inside with soft sponge (no soap!)
Refill with dechlorinated water at same temperature
Reintroduce fish carefully
No Soap: Never use soap or chemicals - harmful to fish and plants!
Maintaining Perfect Balance π‘οΈ
Temperature: Keep water between 75-80Β°F (24-27Β°C) for tropical fish.
pH Levels: Aim for pH 6.8-7.8. Test weekly and adjust as needed.
Balance: Your aquatic terrarium is a delicate ecosystem. Fish and plant health are interconnected!
Health Check π©Ί
Daily Observation: Watch for changes in fish behavior, appetite, or appearance.
Plant Health: Monitor for yellowing leaves or algae overgrowth.
Vacation Care ποΈ
Automatic Feeders: For short trips (up to 1 week).
Fish Sitters: For longer absences, have someone perform water changes and feeding.
Remember, a happy aquatic terrarium means happy fish and plants! π πΏπ
