🌿 Overview
The MiniHaven Terrarium merges a planted moss landscape with a lower aquarium for small fish and an integrated waterfall pump.
Inside you’ll find:
Upper level: live moss, a miniature bonsai-style tree, and low-light foliage plants for texture.
Lower level: a clear water section suitable for a small freshwater fish (e.g., goldfish, betta) or shrimp.
Hidden pump and tubing that circulate water to create a gentle waterfall effect.
This design creates a self-humidifying ecosystem and the calming sound of moving water.
🐟 Aquatic Care
Water Quality
Use dechlorinated or conditioned tap water or filtered water.
Maintain a stable temperature of 22–26 °C (72–79 °F)—ideal for small tropical fish or hardy goldfish.
-
Perform 20–30 % partial water changes weekly.
The easiest method: use the PlantPico Water Changer or a small siphon. Never use soap.
Feeding
Feed fish once or twice daily with high-quality flakes or pellets.
Remove any uneaten food after a few minutes to prevent ammonia spikes.
Pump Maintenance
Keep the water level above the pump intake at all times.
Every 2–4 weeks, unplug the pump, remove it, and rinse the intake and tubing with clean water.
If the waterfall slows or the pump makes noise, check the water level first, then clean.
🌱 Upper Plant Care
Watering & Humidity
Mist the moss and foliage 1–2 times per week or whenever the top layer begins to look dry.
The circulating waterfall adds humidity, so avoid heavy watering.
Light
Place in bright, indirect sunlight or use the included LED lamp for ~8 hours/day.
Avoid direct, harsh sun to prevent overheating the fish or scorching the moss.
Do not run the lamp 24/7—plants need a dark period.
Cleaning & Pruning
Wipe the inner glass weekly with a soft cloth to remove fingerprints and light condensation.
Trim any yellow or overgrown moss with clean scissors.
Remove fallen leaves promptly to deter mold.
❓ Troubleshooting
| Issue | Likely Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump noisy or weak flow | Low water level or clogged intake | Top up water and clean pump. |
| Cloudy water | Overfeeding or infrequent water changes | Perform a 30% partial change and reduce feeding. |
| Algae growth | Excess light or nutrients | Reduce lamp hours slightly and wipe affected areas. |
| Moss browning | Too much direct sun or missed misting | Move to softer light and resume regular misting. |
🌡️ Environment
Room temperature: 18–25 °C (65–77 °F) is ideal.
Normal indoor humidity (50–70 %) works well; the waterfall naturally boosts local humidity.
🌱 Optional Fertilizer
Not required. If desired, apply a quarter-strength liquid houseplant fertilizer to moss every 6–8 weeks—avoid adding fertilizer to the aquarium water.
